Well guys, a lot has happened since
the last update. As far as the school rotations things are quieting down a bit,
I am abut half way through my vacation block and am taking advantage of all
this free time to get in some good weeks of training before Ironman Louisville.
I have to say that this is the first time that I have ever used a structured
workout plan that is extremely detailed, well actually this is the first
workout plan that I have ever used and stuck to for over 5 weeks. In the past
my training motto has always been to listen to my body and go hard when its fit
n’ ready and ease off when you feel… well awful. It turns out that I wasn’t
getting the proper amount of miles in and at the same time not getting enough
rest. My workouts were thrown together and the miles were determined mid
workout. This is no way to train for a race, you need specific goals that
include long 8 hour days, much needed rest days, and all the workouts in
between. I have been getting the time and the miles prescribed and I can feel
my body slowly getting into race shape.
As a side note I have to mention that this lack of school responsibility
for the next few weeks (which frees up about 35 hours per week) I am starting
to feel like this triathlon thing is my job, scary part is that I can’t get
enough of it.
Recently the weather here in
Lexington has taken a turn. This morning it was hovering around 58 degrees,
when just a few weeks ago the high was about 106. This has been a very welcomed
change and lent itself to even more dinners out on the patio. Hopefully this
reprieve in temperature will hold out just a couple more weeks so that race day
is a bit more comfortable.
In other news I would like to turn
you attention to the right side of the screen. There is now a new link that
will send you to the great folks at Road ID. They are a company that I am proud
to say is from KY and are doing great things for outdoor athletes everywhere.
Weather you are going for a short jog or a century bike ride you NEED one of
these. In short it is a personal identification of sorts that will allow
medical personnel to call your emergency contact in case the worst happens. For
more info check out their website!
Until next time, keep training!
